Designed a centrally managed system of banners that enabled hyper-personalization for hosts across Airbnb’s core web and mobile platform.

Challenge

Airbnb struggled to communicate with its hosts in an integrated way across web and mobile because pages across the platform were managed separately by individual engineers.

Airbnb sought to centrally manage messaging across host pages to fix inconsistent and disjointed interactions, eliminate stale content, and ensure contextual relevance of messaging.

Solution

I led a cross-functional team to design a centrally managed system of banners across host pages to enable hyper-personalization, including:

  • Blueprint and design of an integrated set of banners to communicate marketing messages and policy/product/local updates to hosts

  • Communication strategy for every banner on every page

  • Ways of working model to manage banners and govern content

  • Product roadmap to build and improve the system

Impact
